Martin + Me, the first solo album from Dinosaur Jr. leader J Mascis, was recorded on his acoustic tour in the fall of Mascis ran through a number of Dinosaur songs, as well as a handful of covers (the Smiths' "The Boy With the Thorn in His Side," the Wipers' "On the Run," Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Every Mother's Son," Carly Simon's "Anticipation"). It offers the best parts of Dino Jr (minus the drumming) and delivers many of J's best songs, distortion-free, so the listener is able to hear the very very cool riffs and hooks J uses to build his songs on top of that, you feel like you are right there, sitting in front of him, most likely at a small bar in Northampton, MA., where J lives (I /5(16).

This Americana album shares great music and stories about love, loss and living. The music they make will set your feet to tapping and have you singing along Composer, guitarist and vocalist Ken Krell teams up with master-guitarist Craig Green, Grand Master Fiddle Champion Jacie Sites, drummer extraordinaire Wez Stewart, and renowned base player Jaremy Jess to comprise Ken Krell & Co.

Their one constant was the scalp-fryingly loud guitar and deeply buried vocals of J Mascis. "A couple of years before they ended their reign, J cut a solo album called Martin + Me. Recorded live and acoustic, the record allowed the bones of J's songs to be totally visible for the first time.

This album did not dissapoint me. His rough and sometimes messy vocals complement his sound amazingly, and his song writting is still on top form. Fans of Dinosaur Jr will love this album, as will fans of Blind Melon, Pearl jam and John Frusciante. This is an amazing album from one of the most under-rated artists around/5(8).
